Family Files Suit Against Sheriff's Department

March 15, 2006

The family that lost two sons in a car accident last month involving a Winnebago County Sheriff's Department car will file a lawsuit today that says the deputy driving the squad caused the crash.

Aaron Bachman, 21, and his brother, DJ, 15, were killed January 14, after their car collided with a sheriff's car at West State Street and Weldon Road.

Their sister, 19-year-old Kori, was driving the car, and she remains in a coma at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

The lawsuit says Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Boomer failed to use 'ordinary and reasonable care' when driving the squad more than 80 mph without using emergency lights.

The suit seeks an unknown sum of damages.
