Teen Injured In Police Shooting

August 22, 2005

Officials are investigating a police shooting that left a 19-year-old hospitalized in critical condition.

The shooting happened Wednesday night in the 4200-block of West Ogden in Chicago. Police say it began when they tried to question the teen about a homicide, but he took off in a car.

When he got stuck in traffic a few blocks away, he tried to run away. Officers cornered him in a gangway where he allegedly pointed a gun at them, said Pat Camden, Chicago Police Department.

The man was wounded in the stomach. Police say they recovered a nine-millimeter handgun at the scene of the shooting.
