Police Officer Shot On South Side

An Illinois State Police officer was recovering Friday night after being accidentally shot earlier in the day on Peoria's south side.

Police and emergency crews arrived at the scene in the 1900 block of Ann Street just before 4:00 P.M. Friday.

Just minutes earlier a police 'drug raid' went terribly wrong.

Even though this latest shooting appears to be an accident, neighbors in the area say shootings and crime are becoming very common on the south side.

Police are not saying who fired the shot that hit the officer. But, they did arrest one man on drug charges.

Some neighbors want to help to clean-up the southside, but they are scared to talk because of repercussion.
