Semi Truck Crash Kills Trucker, Shuts Down Tri-state

October 20, 2005

A truck driver was killed and the southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway were shut down in south suburban Thornton early this morning as a result of two successive accidents involving five semi-trailer trucks, police said.

The accident began with a fender-bender when one truck rear-ended another about 1:30 a.m. in the middle lane of the southbound Tri-State (Interstate Highways 80/294) near the Lincoln Oasis and ended up with five trucks, according to police.

One truck driver was trapped in his cab and was extricated. He ultimately died.

A man and a woman were taken to St. Margaret's Hospital, Hammond for treatment.
