Liquor Store Owner Charged With Selling Alcohol To Minors Which Led To Death

September 1, 2005

Police last week charged the store's owner, Pinal Vyas, 42, of the 600 block of Portsmouth Place in Wheeling, with selling alcohol to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor.

Morton Grove Mayor Richard Krier, acting as the village liquor commissioner, ordered that the liquor license of The Quick Stop Food & Liquor Store, 9404 Waukegan Rd., be revoked from Monday, August 15.

The body of Joseph Tyrpak, 16, was found early Sunday, Aug. 7, in a pond behind a Glenview home in the 2300 block of Mohawk Drive, not far from where police said a party attended by about a dozen teens took place the previous Friday night.

It is not clear how Tyrpak ended up in the pond. An autopsy showed the teen drowned in an undetermined manner.

Police are still awaiting toxicology results.
