Teen Critically Injured when Pickup Hits Dirt Bike

August 19, 2005

A 13-year-old Montgomery County boy suffered severe head and leg injuries about 2 p.m. when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup south of Fillmore.

Noelan Malloy, son of Lance and Mary Malloy of Fillmore, was airlifted from the accident scene on Burg Road just south of Seventh Avenue to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. A hospital spokesman said the boy's condition remained critical. Montgomery County Undersheriff Rick Robbins said Malloy was driving an unlicensed, unauthorized dirt bike south on Burg Road along with three other unlicensed ATVs.

Brian C. Tritt, 19, of Fillmore, who was driving a 1993 Ford pickup, was attempting to pass the group of vehicles when Malloy reportedly turned into the front of the truck. Malloy's motorcycle was pinned underneath the front of Tritt's vehicle once Tritt was able to stop his truck. Malloy, who was wearing a helmet, was still under the truck, but not trapped, when rescue personnel arrived. Neither Tritt nor his passenger was injured.

The Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department, Hillsboro Area Ambulance and Arch Air Medical Service responded to the accident call. Robbins said an Illinois State Police accident reconstruction officer is assisting the sheriff's office in investigating the accident.
