Murphysboro Couple Killed In Truck-motorcycle Accident

A Murphysboro couple was killed Saturday in a truck-motorcycle accident that occurred in rural Jackson County.

Donald R. Castleberry, 65, and Ida C. Castleberry, 63, were riding a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on State Route 3 approaching State Route 151.

Wilbert A. Eggemeyer, 88, Chester, who was traveling south on Route 3, attempted to make a left turn onto Route 151.

The motorcycle struck the side of Eggemeyer's truck, receiving major damage. The Castleberrys were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro where they died.

Eggemeyer received minor injuries and was taken to Chester Hospital. He was cited for failure to yield left turn.

State police say the accident is still under investigation.
