Woman Sues Owner Of Dog That Bit Her

January 25, 2006

A South Side woman who claims her arm was permanently injured after she was bitten by a dog in June has sued the dog's owner.

Ana Avila was walking down the 6400 block of South Kenneth Avenue on June 8 when a mixed breed Rottweiler/bulldog ran out of a house and lunged at her.

Roddy said the dog bite penetrated Avila's left arm to the tendons and caused severe damage between her wrist and elbow.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, seeks '$100,000 or whatever we can get' from the dog owner, Roddy said.

A series of recent dog attacks has provoked state and city lawmakers to try to protect people from aggressive pets.

Chicago Alderman Virginia A. Rugai has sponsored a city ordinance to force pit bull owners to get rid of their dogs within 30 days or face up to $1,000 in fines or six months in jail.
