Man, 88, On Bike Dies In Accident
March 2, 2006
Wilmette police Wednesday were investigating a fatal accident involving a garbage truck that struck and killed a 88-year-old Evanston man on a bicycle, Wilmette Deputy Police Chief Brian King said.
The man was identified as Edward K. Meyer, of 2518 Jackson Ave.
The accident occurred minutes after noon near Isabella Street and Poplar Avenue, on the border of Evanston and Wilmette.
Deputy Police Chief Brian King thinks that the truck was backing down Poplar toward Isabella when it struck the victim, who was riding his bicycle in the same traffic lane.
No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening.
