Woman Killed In Accident

A 53-year old Des Plaines woman died Tuesday after the car she was a passenger in crashed Tuesday morning, February 21, in Elk Grove Village.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, Ila Patel was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village at 8:07 a.m.

Patel's 18-year-old daughter, Dharti Patel, was driving southbound in a 1990 Toyota Camry on Arlington Heights Road approaching Cosman Road in the right lane when she swerved to avoid a truck stopped in the road, according to a release from the Elk Grove Village Police Department.

Dharti Patel then drove over the curb and struck a light pole, said the release.

Paramedics took both women to Alexian, where Ila Patel died.

Dharti Patel suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
