Woman Injured In Kellogg St. Accident

March 24, 2006

A Galesburg woman required hospital treatment after a two-car accident Saturday night.

According to Galesburg police, Melissa L. Bankes, 16, 711 Johnston Street, was driving her car westbound on Mary Street and failed to yield at a yield sign at Mary and Kellogg streets.

Her car hit another car driven by Maria Ponce, 55, 1667 N. Farnham Street, who was northbound on Kellogg Street.

Police reported the impact pushed Ponce's car into the

front yard of a house at 909 N. Kellogg Street and broke a

small decorative lawn fence.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Ponce was treated at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital emergency room for knee and arm pain, according to police.

Bankes, who was not injured, was ticketed for failure

to yield at a yield intersection.
