Two Canton men were injured in a one-vehicle accident Sunday night, February 12, when a pickup truck crashed into several large trees, a press release from the Fulton County Sheriff's Department reported.
The accident occurred on Route 78 approximately one mile south of county highway 9.
Marc A. Burnap, 27, was driving a 2001 full-size Chevrolet pickup truck. Aaron C. Norton, 28, was the lone passenger in the vehicle. The truck went off the west side of the road when the accident started.
Both men were entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of Lewistown Fire Department. They were treated at the scene by Fulton County Emergency Medical Association paramedics and members of Lewistown Rescue Squad.
One injured was flown to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with a lot of difficulty due to weather.
The second victim was transferred to St. Francis Medical Center after one hour delay due to weather.
Sheriff's deputies remained at the scene until around 11:30 p.m., when the vehicle was removed and the roadway was reopened to normal traffic.
Mark Burnap was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol. He is scheduled to appear in court March 10, a press release from the Fulton County Sheriff's Department reported.
