Illinois State Police have reported a second fatality in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning, February 22, on the southbound lanes of I-55, just north of Harlem Avenue near Forest View.
A Chicago District trooper who did not wish to be identified said two people were killed in the accident, which involved five cars and two trucks.
The trooper said he believed one of the trucks rear-ended the car, setting off a chain reaction.
Several other injuries were also reported in the accident, which closed the entire highway.
Illinois State Police Master Sergeant S. Nowak said earlier today that northbound lanes were used as a landing area for the Loyola Lifestar helicopter, which transported some of the victims.
Nowak said a flatbed truck and another truck without a trailer were involved.
