Pregnant Woman Involved in Accident, Sent to Hospital for Monitoring

An Elgin woman was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital after an accident at 5:23 p.m. at Dunham and Stearns roads, St. Charles Township. Police said John D. Marshall, 52, of 7048 Edgebrook, was heading north on Dunham in a Chevrolet S-10 before rear-ending a Ford Focus, driven by Ella Dean M. Villarruel, 28, of 911 St. Charles St., Elgin, who was stopped at a light. Villarruel was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure because she was pregnant, police said. Marshall was ticketed on a charge of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 24, police said.
