Police, Fire And Courts

The Tazewell County Sheriff's Department and the Peoria County Coroner's office are investigating an accident on Interstate 74 that left at least one person dead Friday night.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said that one person had died as a result of the crash, but could not identify the person pending family notification.

The accident occurred about 7:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-74 at the Interstate 155 exit. Traffic was backed up for more than two hours from the I-155 ramp to the Pinecrest Drive exit in East Peoria.

Authorities said two people - possibly from the same vehicle were transported to Saint Francis Medical Center from the crash site. Information on the other victim was not available late Friday.
