Morning Collision Results In 2 Deaths

August 5, 2005

An early-morning automobile accident claimed the lives of two people Wednesday.

Michael Vincent, 53, of German Valley was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:15 a.m. accident on Illinois 72, about 2 miles west of Byron, according to Ogle County Sheriff's authorities.

The other victim, 17-year-old Tyler McCaslin, was airlifted by Lifeline helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after being extracted by emergency workers from the Byron Fire Department.

McCaslin was pronounced dead at the hospital at about 11:45 a.m.

Sheriff's investigators say McCaslin of Rockford was driving a Chevy Blazer west on 72 when it collided with the eastbound Ford Ranger being driven by Vincent.

The two vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane, Sheriff's officials said, although they did not say what caused McCaslin's Blazer to go into the eastbound lane.

The accident is under investigation.
