McDonough County Sheriff Mike Johnson reported Thursday that deputies were called to US 67 north of Industry at about 5 a.m.
Several cellular 911 callers reported a man down waiving his arms in the air. 911 callers could not give an accurate location just north of Industry.
Sheriff's deputies found a man down, but conscious in the gravel next to the northbound lane on US 67 about 2.5 miles north of Industry.
The injured man identified as Michael L. Purdy, 61, of Macomb, told deputies he was struck by a semi tractor trailer. Purdy told deputies that the semi did not stop.
Purdy was unable to give any description of the vehicle, nor was he able to pinpoint the exact location of the accident. Purdy told deputies he had been walking from the Industry bar to Macomb since about 12 a.m.
Purdy was also unable to tell deputies when the accident occurred.
Purdy was transported to McDonough District Hospital for treatment by ambulance.
The incident is still under investigation by the McDonough County Sheriff's Office.
