Juvenile Seriously Injures Woman, Is Charged With Hit & Run

November 21, 2005

A 15-year-old boy was charged with a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a woman on Chicago's Northwest Side, police said.

About 3 p.m., the boy was trying to park a Ford Explorer near 4753 N. Drake Ave. when he apparently stepped too hard on the gas pedal and went over the curb, striking the woman, Albany Park District Sgt. Joe Corona said. After the accident, the boy abandoned the vehicle and fled, but he surrendered a short time later at the Albany Park District Police Station, officials said.

The boy was ticketed with leaving the scene of the accident, driving without a license, driving without insurance and negligent driving, police spokesman Carlos Herrera said. The woman, whose name has not been released but is between the ages of 30 and 35, was taken in critical condition with head trauma to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she remained.
