Police have custody of the man who is believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Northwest Side that has left a pedestrian seriously injured.
The accident occurred at around 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of North California Avenue, Shakespeare District, police said.
Two witnesses, a man and woman, followed the Buick that was involved in the accident to the 2900 block of West North Avenue, and were somehow able to stop the man's vehicle and detain him while the proper authorities arrived.
The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was taken into custody at Grand Central Area Headquarters, but no charges had yet been filed in connection with the accident as of 2:45 a.m. Monday.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was rushed to a local hospital where doctors have listed him in critical, yet stable condition.
There were no other injuries in the accident.
Although police referred to the accident as a hit and run, they are still not sure what charges the man might face since the investigation was still ongoing.
It was not known if the driver was speeding at the time of the accident.
