Fatal Collision under Investigation by U.P. Police

August 19, 2005

University Park police were investigating the death of a Matteson man whose car collided head-on with another vehicle.

Scott Hanna, 46, was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m. in St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, a Cook County medical examiner's spokeswoman said. An autopsy showed that Hanna died of multiple injuries. The other driver also was taken to St. James and was in critical condition, authorities said. Police did not disclose any other information about the driver.

Investigators were piecing together an account of the wreck, which took place in the 25100 block of Governors Highway about 6 p.m., University Park police Chief Melvin Easley said. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. Illinois State Police were called in to help reconstruct the accident, Easley said.
