Accident Due To Drunk Driving

A Chillicothe man was listed in good condition at a Peoria hospital on Friday after allegedly driving drunk and crashing his car two days earlier several miles west of the city.

Virgil E. Closen, 73, of 20110 N. Peoria Street was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center shortly after the 8:45 p.m. Wednesday crash that occurred on Blue Ridge Road near North Hampton Road.

Closen told a Peoria County sheriff's deputy he couldn't remember details of the crash, reports said.

However, a witness described Closen's driving as erratic as he headed southeast on Blue Ridge before veering off the side of the road and into a ditch.

Closen was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
